is this an update? you will now be updated!

Not much going on around here these days. Kirby is getting ready for a solo show and the rest of us are knee deep in work. You can catch him playing Wednesday November 8, in the Wardroom. There may be a few drum beats at the show, but mostly just a lover-boy and his guitar (or midi controlled keyboard thingy). Spirits are high for a Toronto show late in December. Thoughts are circulating about a new ep, but we are mostly screwing around in various side projects; bleeps and bloops and lots of off beat drumming.

Things I Like (a list written just a few more minutes from home)

1. Humility (I can not say enough about this)
2. Unseasonably Early Snow
3. Upstairs at the Albion Hotel
4. The Un-thanked Kindness of Strangers (yes, this probably means you)
5. Greasy Food in measured doses
6. Omens (Good and Bad)

7. Aunts (yes, this probably means you)
8. "your set needs more, ahh... hummus"
9. Photos of the road, not being on the road, the actual road.
10. Good Advice
11. Being reminded of things.
12. Oh, Ontario How Big Ye Be?

So yeah, after a couple days of reflection, sleep and recuperation, I can't say enough about how generous and kind people were to us, with their time and floor space and general good will. Its amazing how much energy and force, it takes to tour a couple of little ditties about girls over hill and dale, well mainly dale. So thank you all for being a part of it in whatever sense, its not an experience that I or we will forget for some time to come.

The Darcys: Lucky to be Alive Anywhere

The headlights have been shining like diamonds, the tail lights have been burning like coals. Our out of town reception has been a warm one so far. Despite our inability to communicate our deep seeded fears and insecurities to each other (of which there are many), we’ve yet to have our first band fistfight which, as far as we’re concerned is an unprecedented success. The university towns of Ontario are creepily nice, and although the rivers are serene, the lack of punts is disconcerting to say the least. Professionals that we are, we’ve been keeping our eyes on the prize, which is to mold the audience into a homogenous blob of sweat and skin friction. Wednesday night we played to a sparse but enthused audience who were kind enough to brave the ragged punk rock dive that is London Ontario’s Embassy; an establishment that had most likely never played host to a major chord until two nights ago. We fared far better last night, largely in part to the Queen’s Gazette who were kind enough to print an article featuring yours truly, pointing out the unquestionably absurd nature of our tour: “According to all prevailing wisdom about how the music industry works, this article shouldn’t exist.” In the hip hop blasting booty shaking venue that is the immortal Smijie’s Bar and Grill we managed to draw out some of Kingston’s finest (and drunkest), packing the bar above capacity (a crowd of just under two hundred) who shook the earth and the heavens to the beat of our set, and later the music of Sean Paul and Biggie Smalls. The night ended in a Burger King Fish sandwich eating contest amongst the rhythm section. Which brings us to a night in Guelph, having criss-crossed back through Toronto. In the words of Bubba, the Albion Hotel’s music promoter: ‘we may not be able to pay you, but we’ll feed you and getcha real drunk.’ Well, the pressure’s been reduced (we’re openers tonight) and the promise of free beer (the currency we’re used to being paid in) sits ahead of us. Perhaps tonight will be a welcome rest from this crazy business before tomorrow’s Toronto show at Neutral which promises to be seminal and sweaty. Those of you in Halifax, we can’t wait to come home and show you how far we’ve come (geographically). So get your parachute pants patched up and come welcome us home on Monday night, we love you all.

PS- Has anyone heard the new Beck single? One word: Seminal
